7 Fathoms Seaweed Skincare Makes National Debut on CBC’s Dragons’ Den

St. John’s, NL — October 17, 20257 Fathoms Seaweed Skincare, a Newfoundland-based company known for its ocean-derived skincare solutions took a turn in the national spotlight this week. The brand proudly appeared on CBC’s Dragons’ Den on Thursday, October 16, sharing its story and products with viewers across Canada. The founders commemorated the moment by watching themselves on the big screen with an intimate group of friends and family at a family member's home in Old Perlican, Newfoundland and Labrador.

The journey to the Dragons’ Den stage was both unexpected and exciting. In March 2025, the 7 Fathoms team was in St. John’s for the Craft & Gift Wholesale Show, focused on connecting with retailers and showcasing their seaweed-based skincare line. While setting up at Memorial University’s Emera Innovation Exchange, they noticed something surprising: Dragons’ Den auditions were happening just down the hall.

“Once our wholesale show wrapped, we looked at each other and said, ‘Want to give it a try?’” Terrence Howell, Co-Founder, recalled. “Why not! So we did. We shared our story, and it was a great experience.”

Just a week later, the call came: CBC wanted them to pitch to the Dragons in Toronto. With only three weeks to prepare, the team dove into refining their pitch before taping the episode in May.

“Who knew a quiet Saturday at a wholesale show would lead to a national stage?” said Courtney Howell, CEO. “To bring our seaweed skincare story from Newfoundland’s coastline to living rooms across Canada was surreal.”

7 Fathoms Seaweed Skincare is committed to creating sustainable, cruelty-free skincare products made in Newfoundland and Labrador. Harnessing the natural power of Laminaria Digitata and Bladderwrack (Fucus vesiculosus) seaweed, their products are designed to hydrate, protect, and restore epidermal barriers—perfect for people with eczema, psoriasis, and other stubborn skin care issues.

“We’re so grateful for the support of Manjit and all of the Dragon’s in securing this deal. We’d also like to thank our community, advisors, and customers who’ve been with us on this wild, seaweed-soaked journey,” said Howell. “This is just the beginning.”
